A MULTI-SURFACE SCAVENGER HUNT ON TWO WHEELS
Participants must be 18 or older. Field is limited to 50 riders, so register today!
Sponsored by Skinny Wheels, Pedals & Pints, the VeloQuest isn’t your average race; it’s a multi-surface adventure that will have you tearing through city streets, conquering hidden trails, and maybe even testing your balance on two planks (weather permitting).
The Challenge
There is only one winner and it’s not necessarily about who can go faster on a bike. With varying terrain it comes down to bike choice, wit, endurance, and the ability to navigate. There is no set course or marked route. It’s up to you to figure out how to get to the next point. So grab your trusty steeds (any bike goes, from sleek road machines to rugged mountain goats!). Armed with a mobile phone with Google Maps installed, and an insatiable thirst for adventure, you’ll navigate a tapestry of urban labyrinths, verdant trails, and possibly even a watery passage.
The Terrain
The VeloQuest is a smorgasbord of landscapes, designed to test your adaptability and keep you on your toes:
- Urban Slalom. Weave through bustling streets, dodge distracted pedestrians, and conquer challenging climbs as you search for clues hidden in plain sight or tucked away in secret nooks.
- Trailblazer. Escape the concrete and embrace the fresh air! Navigate winding paths, conquer moderate hills, and soak in the scenery as you race towards the next hidden location.
- H2Whoa? Depending on the course and weather, your Veloquest might even involve a short boat paddle to reach a hidden checkpoint across a calm waterway.
The Scavenger Hunt
But the VeloQuest isn’t just about pedaling fast. Each checkpoint will be a portal to quirky challenges that test your wits and problem-solving skills:
- Checkpoints. Some checkpoints may have a task to be completed, or a puzzle to solve to obtain the QR code. There may also be items to collect that must be presented to qualify for a finish.
- Teams? There will only be one winner so teamwork is discouraged but not illegal. If you do choose to team up, just remember only the first finisher who has completed all checkpoints and challenges and collected all necessary items will be victorious!
The Victory Lap
The first finisher to cross the finish line after conquering all the challenges and scavenger hunt tasks will be crowned the VeloQuest champion! But even if you don’t snatch the gold, you’ll walk away with memories to last a lifetime, from conquering challenging terrain to laughing your way through crazy scavenger hunt antics.
Ready to embark on your VeloQuest? Dust off your bike and get ready for an unforgettable adventure on two wheels!
What you’ll need:
- A bike. Choose wisely. At any given time during this event, you will wish you had chosen a more suitable bike (NO E-BIKES).
- A phone with Google Maps and QR code scanning ability, and a gmail account (you will need to temporarily share your location for the organizers and spectators at home base).
- Some kind of phone mount for your bike.
- An extra battery pack is advised.
- Some way to carry collected items.
- An insatiable thirst for adventure and competitive spirit.
Distance
The distance will vary depending on the routes you choose to get to the next location. Checkpoint placements are designed to keep the average between 30-40 miles. Some will make it shorter, and some will make it longer. Think smart!
